Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and treating hearing problems and balance disorders. You will discuss symptoms with patients, document treatments, and prescribe the necessary equipment or aids. This position requires compliance with and a positive commitment to developing the hospital as a centre of excellence for the provision of quality care in the State of Kuwait. You will perform your duties in accordance with the hospital s and department s overall policies, as well as accepted professional and medical ethical standards.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Examine and assess patients with ear problems, diagnosing the root of problems. Obtain accurate medical history.
  • Conduct routine and specialized auditory and vestibular assessment and record presence of disease or abnormality.
  • Utilize behavioural and electrophysiological measures for diagnostic testing.
  • Perform emittance and emissions testing for children and adults and record results for future reference.
  • Conduct auditory evoked potential assessments for patients.
  • Accurately analyse and interpret results of diagnostic testing and make appropriate recommendations for treatment, referrals and rehabilitation
  • Assess patient's candidacy for amplification. Dispense, fit and trouble-shoot hearing aids and other assistive listening devices.
  • Counsels patients and families in the use of equipment, performs hearing aid repairs and promptly processes off-site repairs.
  • Counsel patients in dealing with their hearing difficulties.
  • Fit patients with hearing aids and instruct them in the operation of the devices, as well as their abilities and uses.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for problems such as stuttering, delayed language, swallowing disorders, and inappropriate pitch or harsh voice problems, based on own assessments and recommendations of physicians.
  • Instructs patients in techniques for more effective communication, including sign language, lip reading, and voice improvement.
  • Develop speech exercise programs to reduce disabilities. Prepare engaging exercises and activities to use during speech sessions with patients.
  • Create goals and objectives for patients to work toward and identify areas of progress and challenges
  • Consults with physicians about each patient's future needs and current progress
  • Update medical records based on ongoing evaluations of each patient as per hospital policy
  • Actively contributes to hospital vision and mission.
  • Is aware of hospital/department/individual balance score card and work towards achieving them.
  • Maintains highest standards of personal integrity and demonstrates a clear commitment to teamwork in the delivery of quality patient care.

    • Hospital & departmental wellbeing practices and programs
    • Development & implementation of department strategy plan
    • Data collection
    • Quality improvement plans/projects
    • Hospital committees, events, Sunday Morning Meetings (70% attendance required)

  • Participates in continuing professional development activities to maintain competency in areas of practice.
  • Demonstrates highest standards of ethical and professional behaviour. Fosters an attitude of openness, respect, and accountability of service.

  • Complies with all hospital policies, procedures including but not limited to infection control, hand hygiene, leadership standard practices, risk anagement, leave policies etc.
  • Complies with:
    • Department protocols
    • Monthly duty roster
  • Performs other tasks and duties as directed by the HOD/MD and Management
