Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

The Chief Accountant will oversee the financial operations of the company, ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with local regulations, and effective financial control. He/She will lead the accounting team, manage cash flow, budgeting, and reporting, and provide financial insights to support management decisions in construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and local regulations.
  • Manage project accounting, cost allocation, revenue recognition, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting.
  • Monitor cash flow, banking activities, and fund management to ensure liquidity for ongoing projects.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Coordinate with project managers and procurement teams to track budgets, costs, and financial progress of construction projects.
  • Prepare VAT, tax, and other statutory filings as per GCC regulations.
  • Liaise with external auditors, banks, and regulatory authorities.
  • Support management with financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Professional certifications (CPA, ACCA, CMA, or CA) preferred.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a Chief Accountant or Finance Manager role within the construction/contracting industry in GCC.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, project accounting, cost control, and taxation (including VAT in GCC).
  • Proficient in ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
