Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Provides professional leadership through the supervision of the patient care team, and the maintenance of clinical standards and quality of patient care within the unit during their shift.

Adheres to and promotes the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi.

Promotion of health and delivery of health education

Leadership:

Provides professional leadership and acts as a role model and mentor to fellow nursing staff

Demonstrates critical thinking and provides leadership in conflict management and problem solving

Promotes and supports a collaborative practice model

Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family centered care

Demonstrates a professional commitment to patients and fellow nursing staff.

Adopts an interdisciplinary team approach based on mutual respect and direct communication between health professionals.

Liaises with Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor to ensure the patient care load is addressed with the appropriate staffing and skill mix in an environment which is safe for the patient and nurse.

Ensures the nursing staff works within their capacity, experience, training and scope of practice.

Participates as assigned on committees, working groups and other organization activities.

Acts as a preceptor to less experienced staff as required.

Monitors staff performance, providing regular constructive feedback, coaching, guidance and support to team members on the shift.

Communication:

Maintains confidentiality and security of patient, family, and organization information in accordance with the confidentiality policy

Facilitates effective communication between the patient, family and the interdisciplinary health care team as required.

Liaise with other health care providers as necessary to ensure appropriate and timely interventions for patients and for discharge planning.

Provides a comprehensive clinical handover / report as required to ensure patient safety.

Attends Patient Care rounds and communicates and updates the attending Healthcare provider on changes in the patient s condition.

Communicates with patient care team ongoing changes in patient s plan of care and unit activity

Ensures the nurses communicate and report changes in the patient s condition to the relevant health care provider and that new orders are carried out

Ensures documentation reflects a continuous, systematic and accurate nursing process

Ensures clear and accurate documentation of all patient care events and is compliant with organization policies and procedures.

Monitors and audits compliance with organization documentation standards

Establishes and maintains professional boundaries with patients and members of the healthcare team.

KPI:

Participates and/or leads quality improvement activities by assisting with the development, implementation and review of standards, policies, procedures and guidelines, evaluation of indicators and reporting of outcomes and trends.

Monitors and evaluates unit operation and services in order to identify problems and takes a lead role in improving systems and safe patient care

Participates in interdisciplinary teams and Performance Improvement Projects for evaluation and improvement of processes and clinical practice

Ensures provision of a clean and safe working environment that minimizes risks to patients, visitors, other staff, and self. Identifies faulty and defective equipment and furniture, removes from service and takes corrective action

Complies with International and HAAD Patient Safety Goals

Promotes and audits compliance with the organization s Infection Control policies and procedures

Identifies, investigates, reports, and implements corrective action for incidents or complaints as appropriate. Completes appropriate documentation according to organization policy.

Delegates responsibilities to the nursing team in response to an emergency situation.

Clinical Practice:

Responsible for monitoring direct and indirect patient care to achieve optimum patient outcome.

Provides patient care within the regulatory body Scope of practice, organization policies and procedures, and the Unit Scope of Service.

Assumes accountability and responsibility for own practice and does not carry out tasks beyond level of competence.

Provides guidance to nursing staff in the planning, implementation and evaluation of individualized patient care.

Coordinates the interdisciplinary team activities to provide patient and family centered care

Demonstrates service excellence and acts as a patient advocate to support the patients rights and dignity at all times

Coordinates referrals and utilizes available resources for the provision of comprehensive care to patients and families

Promotes and utilizes evidence-based practice in the provision of care

Facilitates a climate of mutual understanding, and appreciation of cross cultural differences inherent in a multicultural society.

Administers medications according to organization policies and procedures.

Understands actions of medication and contraindications, evaluates patient s response, identifies side effects and initiates appropriate action.

Is responsible to ensure that on a shift basis at unit level, the monitoring, replacement, storage and administration of Narcotic and Controlled Drugs is in accordance with Ministry of Health s and HA-AD Narcotic Policies and Procedures.

Is accountable and responsible to maintain a sound knowledge base in medication and administration of medications.

Collaborates with Pharmacy services to ensure the provision of medication needs of the unit.

Reports Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR s) and Medication errors in accordance with organization policy.

Responds to all levels of emergencies according to the organizations policies and procedures

Provides guidance and advice to patient care team on clinical and administrative matters.

Desired Candidate Profile

Required:

Bachelor degree in nursing or equivalent qualification of NLT 3 years study duration from an accredited program;

  • AND Valid/current national license.
  • AND BLS

Desired:

ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.

equired:

  • NLT 4 years clinical experience post qualification in an appropriate & relevant healthcare settings
  • NLT 2 years experience as charge nurse in a particular unit
