The Sultanate of Oman has witnessed a significant surge in its expatriate population, with the total number of foreign workers reaching an impressive 1.8 million by the end of September. This figure represents a substantial increase compared to the Omani population of 856,488.

According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), several nationalities have experienced substantial growth in their expatriate communities within Oman. Notably, the Sudanese expatriate population has seen a remarkable 110% increase between September 2023 and 2024, reaching 24,080. Other notable increases were observed in Myanmar (64.4%), Tanzania (43.2%), and Egypt (10.6%).

The South Asian nations of Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan continue to have the largest expatriate communities in Oman. Additionally, Southeast Asian countries such as the Philippines and Sri Lanka contribute significant numbers of foreign workers to the Sultanate.

The construction sector remains the primary employer of expatriates in Oman, followed by wholesale and retail trade, manufacturing, and accommodation and food services. This diverse range of industries highlights the significant role played by expatriates in driving the country's economic growth.

Oman's consistently high ranking in global quality of life indices continues to attract foreign workers seeking a safe and comfortable environment. The country's favorable living conditions and opportunities for employment make it an attractive destination for expatriates from various regions.

As Oman's economy continues to expand, the demand for foreign labor is expected to remain strong. The Sultanate's strategic location and favorable investment climate make it a desirable destination for businesses and individuals alike.
