Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities:-

  • Strong knowledge of all marine-related activities involved in rig operations, including navigation, anchor handling, stability management, loading/unloading, weight distribution, ballasting operations, and relevant maintenance work.

  • Ability to supervise all marine department operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant functioning of the rig.

  • Skilled in monitoring weather conditions and rig motions to assess their impact on drilling operations and the overall seaworthiness of the rig.

  • Capable of accurately calculating load distribution and weights for the daily stability report.

  • Ability to coordinate all helicopter and supply boat traffic, supervising material and personnel movement to and from the rig.

  • Experience in maintaining accurate records of certificates related to lifting equipment and ensuring full traceability between each certificate and its corresponding component.

  • Ensuring all deck equipment is in safe working condition, including inspection, certification, color coding, proper maintenance, and organized storage. Also responsible for coordinating and supervising periodic inspections of the rig s structure, hull compartments, and critical joints.

  • Awareness and capability to maintain accurate records of hazardous products, including quantity, properties, and location, ensuring necessary information is available for emergency response in the control center. Ensuring safe stock levels of consumables such as fuel, potable water, and drill water.

  • Ensuring deck (hull and stability) personnel have the proper education and receive adequate on-the-job training.

  • Planning, executing, and controlling key operational activities. Ensuring manifests/cargo lists and passenger manifests are prepared and forwarded in accordance with DMS MODU Procedure Manual.

  • Ability to prepare and supervise rig move plans and mobilization activities.

  • Experience in managing the Lifting Equipment Register and ensuring all lifting equipment is certified, documented, and properly recorded.

  • Conducting regular inspections (with the OIM/PIC) of safety and rescue equipment, cargo gear, marine equipment, and ensuring validity of all certificates, arranging renewals when required.

  • Collaborating with OIM/PIC, Section Leaders, Medic, Safety Delegates, and AMU to evaluate risks associated with hazardous activities and ensuring necessary safety measures are implemented. Participating in risk analyses, contingency planning, and proposing safety-related improvements.

  • Conducting tank and confined-space checks using portable gas detectors before personnel entry.

  • Supervising (with OIM/PIC) the maintenance of the hull, superstructure, and marine equipment, including safety and rescue equipment and escape routes.

  • Assisting the OIM/PIC during any emergency situation and maintaining updated knowledge of flag-state, national, and international rules and regulations.

  • Ensuring deck crew are properly trained in lifting, slinging, and signaling techniques, and confirming that a designated, easily identifiable Banksman is always present during crane operations.

  • Experience in updating Safety Plans, Station Bills, Muster Cards, and Contingency Manuals.

  • Responsible for ensuring all lifting equipment is certified, recorded, and updated in the Lifting Equipment Register.

  • Experience in cost control and maintaining inventory lists for rig materials, as well as providing budget inputs for upcoming operational years.
