Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Head of Automation Department is responsible for leading and managing the automation business unit, driving sales, overseeing technical execution, and ensuring customer satisfaction across various industries. This role requires strategic leadership, technical expertise in automation systems involving PLC, SCADA, DCS, RTU safety system and involving ESD, F&G, HIPPS, ICSS , Instrumentation, SCADA and strong stakeholder engagement.

Sales & Client Engagement

  • Generate RFQs with a cumulative value of up to AED 200 million annually.
  • Achieve annual sales targets of AED 30 million through strategic engagement and solution selling.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with key EPCs and end clients such as TAQA, DEWA, Dubai Municipality, ADM, and others utilities and institutions across GCC.
  • Drive business development and sales of automation solutions across Oil & Gas, Utilities, District Cooling, Airports, and Infrastructure sectors.
  • Ensure compliance with local regulations, HSE standards, and cybersecurity protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, engineering, and finance.
  • Conduct performance reviews, mentor team members, and support professional development.
  • Manage risks and implement process optimization strategies across automation operations.

Technical & Project Execution Oversight

  • Lead registration and prequalification processes with clients and EPCs.
  • Review and interpret project specifications to guide solution design and ensure compliance.
  • Mentor application engineers in developing tailored automation solutions.
  • Oversee preparation of technical and commercial compliance documents for tenders and proposals.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of offers in alignment with client requirements.
  • Monitor project execution and delivery schedules to ensure alignment with client expectations and contractual obligations.

Solution Expertise

  • Provide technical leadership across:
  • Automation Systems – PLC, SCADA, DCS, RTU
  • Safety Systems – ESD, F&G, HIPPS, ICSS
  • Instrumentation Services – Design, supply, installation, calibration, commissioning
  • SCADA Control Rooms – Ergonomic HMI setups, video walls

Market Intelligence & Opportunity Tracking

  • Continuously monitor market trends and emerging opportunities in automation and infrastructure sectors.
  • Maintain and periodically refresh a database of active and upcoming projects, tracking their status and key milestones.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align sales strategies with market developments.

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with OEMs to secure competitive pricing, delivery schedules, and technical support.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, understanding their needs and ensuring successful solution delivery.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering, proposals, and execution teams to ensure project success and client satisfaction.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • 15–20 years of experience in automation project sales and execution within Utilities, Oil & Gas, or Infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong technical knowledge in PLC, SCADA, DCS, RTU, IIoT, and associated systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Fluent in English
