Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Head of General Education Program to fulfil the Academy s strategic priorities.
  • Teach a set of subjects in Emirati Studies and related Humanities fields as assigned by the Head, using pedagogical approaches that reflect cultural, historical, and societal contexts of the UAE.
  • Use appropriate, innovative, and effective teaching methods, including case studies, interactive discussions, and applied learning including field-based studies, to engage maritime cadets and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Participate in the assessment process: design exams and assignments, prepare marking schemes, conduct moderation, and adopt innovative assessment practices and applied understanding of Emirati society.
  • Ensure teaching is research-informed, bringing the latest developments in Emirati culture, history, law, and social studies into the classroom.
  • Conduct original research in Emirati Studies / Humanities, with outputs that contribute to the Academy s aspiration to be a research-active institution.
  • Provide timely, constructive, and comprehensive feedback to students to support their academic and professional growth.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and course reviews as required.
  • Participate in community engagement and cultural initiatives that enhance the Academy s reputation.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • E: PhD in Emirati Studies, or a closely related fields such as humanities/ sociology/ anthropology/ political science.
  • P: Scholarship on UAE/Gulf studies, UAE s maritime history and heritage or blue-economy themes.

Skills

  • E: Strong command of English to be able to teach and assess students work.
  • E: Strong knowledge of Emirati heritage, history, and cultural frameworks, with the ability to integrate them into teaching.
  • E: Team player, approachable and culturally sensitive towards all backgrounds.
  • E: Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining academic quality standards.
  • P: A good command of Arabic language.

Experience

  • E: Proven teaching experience in Emirati Studies / Sociology/ Humanities at university level.
  • E: Experience developing and revising Humanities/General Education courses and programs in line with accreditation standards.
  • E: Demonstrated curriculum design & assessment experience mapped to CAA GE outcomes.
  • E: A full understanding of ways to support course files, CLO-PLO mappings, assessment blueprints, and contribute to annual course reports for CAA compliance.
  • P: Evidence of research publications, projects, or contributions in Emirati Studies, Humanities, or related cultural/social fields.
  • P: Familiarity with learning technologies (LMS, online assessment, academic integrity tools).
