Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking an exceptional and ambitious Assistant Headteacher: Teaching, Learning & Staff Development to join our senior leadership team in a growing UK curriculum secondary school (Years 7 13).

This is a pivotal role focused on raising the quality and consistency of teaching across the school, developing staff at all career stages, and embedding a coaching-led culture of professional growth. The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping classroom practice, CPD, and instructional excellence as the school continues to expand its KS4 and KS5 provision.

The post reports to the Headteacher, with strategic oversight from the Principal, and works closely with the Assistant Headteacher for Curriculum, Data & Assessment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and embed a whole-school approach to high-quality teaching and learning
  • Drive evidence-informed pedagogy and consistent instructional practice
  • Design and deliver a coherent, impactful CPD programme aligned to school priorities
  • Lead coaching, modelling and professional learning across departments
  • Line manage Teaching & Learning Champions and Lead Practitioners
  • Support Early Career Teachers through induction and the ECT framework
  • Promote an open-classroom culture with a strong focus on coaching and reflection
  • Work collaboratively with Heads of Faculty and the Head of STEAM to improve classroom practice
  • Support classroom routines and behaviour for learning through teaching-focused leadership
  • Contribute to self-evaluation, inspection readiness and the School Improvement Plan

Desired Candidate Profile

Essential:
Qualified Teacher Status
A strong track record of outstanding classroom practice
Proven experience of improving teaching and learning beyond their own classroom
Previous experience in a senior leadership role or acting senior leadership capacity
Strong coaching, mentoring and professional development skills
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Experience working within a UK curriculum framework (KS3 KS5)

Desirable:
Experience leading whole-school CPD or instructional coaching
Experience supporting Early Career Teachers and developing future leaders
International school experience
